The Young Lawyers Division of the Lackawanna Bar Association proudly sponsors the local District Competition for District 1 of the newly formed Region 10 (Northeast II) of the Statewide High School Mock Trial Competition. Jennifer Menichini and Kim Moraski served as Coordinators for the Mock Trials this year.

Abington Heights, Carbondale Area, Dunmore, Holy Cross, Honesdale, Lakeland, Mid Valley, North Pocono, Scranton, Scranton Prep, Valley View, West Scranton and Western Wayne all participated in the local competition, which includes schools from Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties.

These schools were among over 300 high school teams across Pennsylvania competing in the district-level of competition. Pennsylvania’s mock trial program is one of the largest in the nation.

This year’s District Competition concluded on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 with the  Final Round trial between the team from Scranton Prep, who participated as the Plaintiff, and the team from Abington Heights, who participated as the Defendant.  A panel of volunteer jurors scored the event, with a verdict in favor of Abington Heights. As the champion from District 1, Abington Heights advanced to the Regional Competition against the winner from District 2, which includes schools from Monroe and Pike Counties.

Pocono Mountain East High School captured the District 2 Competition title on Thursday, February 27, 2014.

Jurors again returned a verdict in favor of Abington Heights, who will advance as the Region 10 Champion to the State Championship Competition, which is scheduled for March 28th and 29th in Harrisburg.
